ABA Oman International School: Empowering Global Citizens and Championing Sustainability
ABA Oman International School, located in Muscat, stands at the forefront of international education in the Middle East. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School, ABA offers the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). Our students consistently achieve DP results above the world average, a testament to our rigorous academic approach and commitment to holistic learning. ABA graduates attend top-tier universities globally, equipped with strong academic foundations and the skills to thrive as global citizens.
Since its establishment in 1987, ABA has prioritized creating a diverse and inclusive community of internationally minded, ethically responsible learners. Our focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) ensures ABA is a place where every student is seen, valued, and has a true sense of belonging. ABA's high safeguarding standards create a safe, nurturing environment for all.
During a recent visit to ABA, Mr. Olli-Pekka Heinonen, Director General of the IB, praised the school's dedication to contextualized learning. He remarked: "Learning happens within a context, and the connection to local culture is something the IB values deeply; I was truly impressed to witness this in action at ABA."
Sustainability is embedded in ABA's culture and campus. The new purpose-built facility features solar-powered systems, reducing environmental impact and providing students with hands-on experience in renewable energy and sustainable practices. By integrating green initiatives into campus life, ABA demonstrates how sustainability and innovation are central to modern education.
At ABA, the focus on global citizenship begins early. Our inquiry-based learning model encourages students to explore diverse perspectives, fostering understanding and empathy. Through service as action in the MYP and the DP's Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) components, students engage with their community, making a positive impact on the world. These experiences build critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills, preparing students for the challenges of an interconnected world.
In high school, students can pursue the Global Citizen Diploma (GCD), the first of its kind in the Middle East, while experiential learning beyond the classroom further prepares them for real-world challenges. Field trips, discovery excursions, outdoor education, and the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, alongside work experience weeks and internships, develop resilience, leadership, and problem-solving skills, empowering students to make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.
Craig Williamson, Chairperson of the IB Association in Oman and ABA Head of School, captures this spirit: "At ABA, students engage in principled action, are internationally minded, and learn holistically. This is the ABA difference."
