The American Overseas School of Rome (AOSR) has been a cornerstone of international education in Italy since 1946. Located in Rome, we serve about 600 students, with 70% coming from diplomatic and international families representing over 50 countries. We offer a comprehensive academic path from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12, featuring both the International Baccalaureate (IB) and American diploma programmes.

Our educational approach is grounded in four core values: respect, integrity, responsibility, and trust. These principles guide our students' intellectual growth, foster intercultural understanding, and develop the leadership skills they need in an increasingly connected world.

AOSR has been a leader in offering the IB Diploma Programme since 1989, establishing itself as one of Rome's pioneering schools in international education. Our students consistently excel, with an impressive IB Diploma pass rate, and many have gained acceptance to top universities worldwide, including MIT, Yale, Harvard, UC Berkeley, University of Toronto, Bocconi, King's College London, and the United States Naval Academy. The IB programme's recognition as equivalent to the Italian "Maturità" also opens pathways to prestigious Italian universities.

We offer a wide range of opportunities that extend beyond academics. Our students thrive in athletics, music, and the visual arts. Educational trips to historical sites and community service projects foster a sense of responsibility and leadership. With 20+ IB courses, we provide one of the most extensive selections in Italy.

AOSR is a close-knit community where students, educators, and peers build strong, supportive relationships. We are committed to staying ahead of the curve in international education by investing in faculty development, state-of-the-art facilities, and cutting-edge technology.

Since introducing the IB programme, AOSR has seen continued success, with a notable increase in the number of IB Diploma candidates year over year. We expect 96% of our seniors to graduate with an IB Diploma in 2024-25, positioning us as one of the top IB schools in Italy and the region’s most experienced in delivering this programme.

AOSR seamlessly integrates the IB Diploma Programme into Rome's academic environment. Our dedicated College Counselor and IB Coordinator provide ongoing support to students throughout their academic journey.
