EARJ - Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro is one of the America's most respected international teaching institutions. Established in 1937, and an IB World School since 1982, EARJ is a non-profit school, providing an American international education to the expatriate and Brazilian communities of Rio de Janeiro. It blends a rigorous academic program with rich co-curricular opportunities.
EARJ occupies two campuses in different parts of the city, each offering programs from Preschool to the IB Diploma. EARJ is distinctive in that its 1,300 students can work towards graduating with three Diplomas concurrently: the IB Diploma, the US High School Diploma, and the Brazilian Diploma. Every year, EARJ graduates are accepted to the world's leading universities, and we pride ourselves on each student finding the institution that is best for them. Whilst a few graduates remain to study in Brazil, the vast majority head abroad to the USA, Canada and Europe for university.
EARJ is proud to offer a holistic education that, through the philosophy and practices of the IB, inspires creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and the confidence to lead and excel in an ever-changing global community.
Since 1982, EARJ has offered the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme, in addition to American and Brazilian diplomas, contributing to making our institution one of the most respected international educational institutions in Latin America.
More recently, we've reached a fantastic new milestone in our school’s history - EARJ has been awarded PYP School and MYP School status. This means that we can offer the Primary Years Programme and the Middle Years Programme, as a Full IB Continuum School.
EARJ is a diverse international community of learners. Across our two campuses, our student body comprises 77% Brazilian and 23% International students. Our faculty demographic is composed of 39% international and 61% national. The past years have seen tremendous growth in our enrollment, with further growth expected in the coming years. Our community is spread far and wide, via our Panther Alumni network, who keeps us connected to our past as we work towards an even brighter future.
