Desheng School (International) (DSI), a global centre of excellence that promotes holistic education, is part of a K-12 education group located in the center of China's Greater Bay Area and serves over 10,000 students. Established in 2011, DSI is dedicated to nurturing independent, lifelong learners who strive for excellence and serve with compassion.
From Local Vision to Global Education
Desheng School has maintained a strong reputation for academic excellence locally for the past decade. In growing this sense of excellence, Mr. Chen Jiye, our founding chairman of Desheng Education Group, was determined to provide a world-class education and global opportunities to local students, preparing them for greater pursuits in life, thus opening DSI.
With the support of visionary leaders, DSI has an energetic and dedicated teaching team that leads, nurtures, and inspires students, fostering a community that values innovation and collaboration. Our faculty composes of teachers from over 13 countries, all committed to fostering a professional learning community. With a motivation to excellence, our teachers have relocated to Shunde long-term, serving as role models and continually advancing our teaching practices with the school's support. Evidence of our commitment to teaching and learning is our DSI Education Conference where our teachers showcase their action research and innovative teaching strategies. Through refining our practices, our teachers are dedicated to creating a safe and supportive learning environment for students.
Comprehensive Curriculum and Diverse Pathways for Lifelong Learning
We offer a balanced, comprehensive curriculum designed to cultivate lifelong learning skills. The school provides a Foundation Programme (an integration of Chinese National Curriculum and school-based international curriculum) for Grades 7 and 8, Cambridge IGCSE for Grades 9 and 10, and IBDP or A Levels for Grades 11 and 12. These diverse pathways allow students with different learning needs and goals to flourish at DSI. A wide range of subjects, including Theatrical and Cinematic Arts, Arts and Design, Music, Computer Science, and AI, allows for both academic and vocational exploration.
In addition to core subjects, we offer school-based curriculum that includes bridging programs to help students from the national curriculum adjust to different Approaches to Learning (ATL) and improve their English proficiency in the international curriculum. The curriculum also includes courses in Research Skills, Mathematics Skills, Active Learning, and Philosophy of Discipline.
Additionally, we are committed to fostering an English language environment, through Principal Dialogues, student-led Assemblies, etc. to support effective communication in its multicultural community.
Our Local, Overseas, and University Experiential Programs provide interdisciplinary learning experiences in real-world contexts. These programs focus on areas such as local history, biodiversity, geography, and problem-solving. Through these experiences, our students foster critical thinking, research, communication, social, and self-management skills, supporting their lifelong learning journeys.
Developing Future Leaders Who Make a Positive Difference in Society
At DSI, we recognize the uniqueness of every student and offer a comprehensive development system to support their growth. Our Pastoral Care and Career Guidance (PCCG) program focuses on the personal, emotional, social, and vocational development of each student. Additionally, our Careers, Opportunities, and Guidance (COG) team and the Guidance Counselling Office (GCO) provide counselling support to help students and families achieve their future goals and ensure their well-being.
We offer students numerous opportunities to explore their interests and thrive through activities like Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs), Sabbatical Week, the House system, the Sports Club, and Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS). Our student-led CCAs like ICT, MUN and Rugby teams have won international and national recognitions, STEM, Media, Creative Arts, and Pop Dance have achieved regional champions. Our Chamber Choir and String Orchestra put on annual concerts for our community and beyond. Sabbatical Week empowers students to design, lead and teach courses, sharing their expertise with the school community. The House system supports sports activities, especially for boarding students, while the student-led Sports Club offers weekly competitive and recreational sports. Early involvement in service learning enables students to plan and implement CAS projects, including service at local centers for autistic children, elderly homes, rural village primary schools, fundraising events, arts galas, and more. These initiatives, guided by the Student Governing Council, foster leadership development.
DSI successfully guides its graduates to the world’s top universities, including Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, the University of Hong Kong, the University of Toronto, the University of Melbourne, and many more. Impressively, 100% of DSI graduates are admitted to universities ranked among the top 100 globally.
Academic achievement is just part of our story. After years of service learning, DSI alumni continue to make meaningful contributions to society. They excel in fields such as biomedicine, tackling incurable diseases, or become community leaders who support underprivileged groups. They remain an integral part of the DSI family, setting examples and creating a lasting impact on both the local and global communities.
