The International School of Turin is a private, non-profit organization school open to students from all over the world. Established in 1963 as the American School of Turin, it was refounded in 1974 as the American Cultural Association of Turin (ACAT) and in 2007 renamed as the International School of Turin (IST). Since its establishment, IST has been a point of reference for the international community as well as for local families wishing to raise their children to be ready for the challenges of today’s global world.
Our mission is to "inspire lifelong learning and international mindedness, empowering each student to reach their full potential."
IST is an IB World School authorized to offer the IB full continuum of programs in English from Early Years to Grade 12: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP).
IST has also been accredited by CIS (Council of International Schools) and NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) since 1984.
The school's curriculum is international and leads to the completion of both the IST American High School Diploma and the IB Diploma, which is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education as being legally equivalent to the Italian Maturità.
IST is the only international school in Piedmont to be granted Parità Scolastica (equivalency) by the Italian Ministry of Education for its Early Years and Primary sections.
As proof our school's commitment to sustainability, IST is also certified as a "Green School" by FEE - Foundation for Environmental Education. Our school garden and greenhouse provide endless teaching and learning opportunities for students of all grades to raise their awareness of this global issue.
IST is proud to be a non-selective school and as such we pride ourselves on a well-structured student support team to ensure all students equal opportunities to access the school curriculum and benefit from it. The English Language Learning is aimed at students whose level of English language knowledge requires further development to access regular class courses. The Learning Support team works with students who need additional support to help them develop skills and strategies that will enable them to work at their full potential.
IST's school counsellor is in charge of a school-wide advisory and counselling program and works alongside teachers to help students successfully develop their socio-emotional skills.
IST offers a university counselling service to guide students in their subject choices as well as supporting them with university applications and providing opportunities to learn more about the options available both locally and abroad.
Afterschool activities are an integral part of IST's academic offer and are aimed at promoting and supporting learning beyond the classroom. The IST Sports teams and the IST Orchestra are just two examples.
