Kingston's mission is to provide a challenging and stimulating environment that nurtures the balanced development of students who, in their own unique way, grow into active and responsible world citizens. Kingston Children's Centre was established in 1996 and quickly grew into a highly successful bilingual Kindergarten using English and Mandarin Chinese as the medium of instruction. With popular demand from our parent community, our Primary School opened in September 2001 as a pathway for our students to continue their education in a bilingual setting and with the Kingston philosophy. The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme was introduced at the same time. In 2004, Kingston was the first school in Hong Kong to gain IBPYP authorisation. Since 2010, Kingston has been able to offer our students a through-train to the IBDP through our partnership with ICHK Secondary School.
Our school is spread over three cozy campuses, located very near each other in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong. Members of the community who take the opportunity to walk the halls and visit the classrooms of Kingston often comment on the fluidity with which our students switch between the two living languages of our school, Mandarin and English. Collaborative teaching practices ensure an ideal environment for native fluency in both of our languages of instruction.
The Kingston community feels like an extended family in which multicultural collaboration has resulted in an excellent, rigorous, bilingual program. We value inclusive learning, which is reinforced by our approach of keeping class numbers low and teacher numbers high. All of our teachers are fully qualified native speakers of their taught languages and come from all over the globe, bringing with them a wide variety of experiences.
For over 25 years, Kingston has successfully provided a bilingual education for learners whose families wanted an international education for their child without foregoing the opportunity for their child to become a bilingual communicator who is confident in using both English and Mandarin. At Kingston we remain committed to the transdisciplinary approach to education, to innovation and to a lifelong learning journey.
