Oakham is proud to be an IB World School and we have been successfully teaching the IB Diploma for over 20 years. Our educational ethos perfectly reflects the IB's vision to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, confident, and caring young people. An Oakham education is powered by our Connected Curriculum, where the three educational pillars of academic, pastoral, and co-curricular learning are fully integrated across all age groups.

Oakham is well known and loved for being a friendly, unpretentious, and highly successful school. Our down-to-earth atmosphere is thanks to our uniquely balanced pupil community with children from nearly 40 countries, 50:50 boarding and day pupils, 50:50 girls and boys. Around 19% of Oakham pupils are international students and we celebrate the different perspectives they bring to enrich our community.

Academic

Pupils choose from 27 subjects at GCSE and at 16+ study either the IB Diploma or A-levels. Our IB Diploma results far exceed the global average, and our teachers are leading practitioners and examiners. Our full-time Head of Careers and her team offer in-depth guidance and information on career options and admissions procedures for UK and overseas universities.

Pastoral Care

Our dedicated Houses for boarders and day pupils means that we can offer all pupils the benefits of our outstanding boarding provision in ways that suit modern family life. Led by a Housemaster or Housemistress, and supported by a team of Tutors, Prefects and a Matron, each House provides our pupils with the care and support they need to develop intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Our location

Our beautiful campus, an hour's drive north of Cambridge, provides 40 acres of sports pitches, university quality teaching facilities, and a wealth of places to work and socialise. Pupils enjoy the safety of living and working in stunning surroundings, within a five-minute walk of Oakham's historic town centre and amenities.

Co-curricular

We offer a spectacularly wide range of co-curricular opportunities. We stage five major drama productions and 80 concerts each year and our thriving Art & Design Departments offer courses ranging from sculpture to textiles and jewellery making. Oakham has a national reputation for Sport, offering 30 different sports. Students choose from over 125 activities to take part in each week, including MUN, DofE, CCF, and Voluntary Action, and sailing.
