Tirana International School is a private, nonprofit institution which opened in 1991. It offers a high-quality education in the English language for children ages two through high school graduation and includes students from the diplomatic, international business, and Albanian communities. It is a member of Quality Schools International, a consortium of non-profit college-preparatory international schools with American-style curriculum. TIS has been accredited by the Middle States Association since 1999.

Students, Faculty & Staff

The school is growing and currently has over 400 students representing 38 nationalities. The school prides itself on hiring caring, qualified, and dedicated educators. Teachers at TIS are certified and experienced educators who bring a wealth of expertise, knowledge, and skills to their learning environments.

School Facilities and Location

The school facility is located on the south side of the city of Tirana, just outside the busy city. The campus occupies a beautiful, green 5.5-hectare site. The building was designed to accommodate growth in enrollment and to take advantage of the abundant Albanian sunshine, having lots of balconies and patios.

The sports complex boasts several playgrounds, a soccer field, a track, a tennis court, an indoor exercise room, a gymnasium, and a dance studio. The school building includes a full English-language elementary and secondary library, with additional resources to support Languages Other than English; multiple science laboratories; a technology lab; fully equipped music and art rooms; an indoor performance area; a full-service cafeteria; and state-of-the-art, well-resourced and well-equipped classrooms. In addition, the school has many outdoor courtyards and respite areas for students to gather.

Academic Program & Philosophy

Tirana International School believes that every child can succeed and strives to offer a rigorous overall program - with equal emphasis on the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and success orientations - in an accepting, friendly, and supportive environment.

TIS follows QSI's mastery learning approach to teaching, in which students master specific objectives before moving on. This approach emphasizes success over mediocracy as well as rigor and critical thinking. The TIS curriculum well prepares students for the challenges of the IB DP.

IB Programme

An IB school since 2021, the diploma programme continues to grow. Candidates are supported by a team of motivated, caring teachers and administrators who are passionate about their work and the success of the IB programme. Further, the program benefits from collaboration with local IB schools as well as the larger QSI network of schools. As the programme grows, TIS continues to expand their list of course offerings, with Global Politics, History and Physics rounding out our group 3 and 4 offerings for the incoming cohort.

IB Course Offerings

TIS is offering English: Language and Literature, Albanian Literature, French and Spanish B, Spanish Ab initio, Economics, Business Management, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Art and Theatre. As the programme grows, TIS continues to expand their list of course offerings, with Global Politics, History and Physics rounding out our group 3 and 4 offerings for the incoming cohort.
