Ruamrudee International School (RIS), founded in 1957 by Catholic Redemptorist Fathers, is one of the first international schools in Southeast Asia to be accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). An IB World School since 1998, RIS offers a rigorous and extremely successful International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (38 courses) and is one of the region's only schools to simultaneously offer the Advanced Placement program (14 courses).
RIS features a diverse group of experienced teachers who are passionate, supportive, and experts in their fields; most of whom hold master’s degrees or higher. From Pre-K 3 through Grade 12, students benefit from small class sizes; relevant and innovative electives; modern languages; a vibrant performing and visual arts program; and a comprehensive extended day program with creative enrichment opportunities.
Located in the Minburi district of Bangkok along the city outskirts, RIS is less than half an hour from Suvarnabhumi International Airport and is surrounded by a thriving local community. Campus highlights include 21st-century learning spaces, a culinary arts center, recording studio, industrial design studio, a makerspace/robotics lab, and a contemporary boarding residence with a warm, familial feel. The school's lush 29-acre campus and facilities also support one of the largest athletic programs of any international school in Southeast Asia.
In the last few years, RIS IB Diploma students have scored an average of 35, far above world averages, with 2021 and 2022 culminating in highs of 37 and 38 respectively. After graduation, RIS students go on to attend the most prestigious universities in the world, and a close-knit alumni community can be found working as government leaders, diplomats, and researchers; in all branches of medicine; as startup entrepreneurs; in the entertainment and film industries; as professional athletes; and in the fields of AI and design technologies.
At RIS, the community is deeply involved in student-led, service learning-based extracurricular clubs, activities, and committees or in organizing events in support of charities and causes. The IB Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) elements at RIS count as a required Values credit, and by the end of a two-year commitment, CAS students will have assessed authentic needs within the community and collaborated with friends and organizations, developing new skills and connections along the way. These CAS experiences are compiled into an annual school publication, written by the students themselves, aptly titled Reflections.
