St Edward's enjoys great success offering the IB alongside A Levels in the Sixth Form, with around 50% of pupils (around 160) choosing to study the IB. The School occupies 100 glorious acres in the north of Oxford and the original Victorian quad has recently been added to with the Christie Centre, a suite of modern and flexible classroom and study spaces topped with the collegiate-style Roe Reading Room, and the 1,000 seater Olivier Hall. On-site and open to the public is the school's very own North Wall Arts Centre, where plays, dance shows and exhibitions give pupils unrivalled access and insights into the arts.
Oxford
The School's location in Oxford is a fundamental feature of school life. The expanding Oxford Programme, an important part of our academic culture, draws on the rich pool of world-leading university academics to enhance our pupils' education. Countless experts visit St Edward's to give talks to our pupils and, in turn, pupils visit the University to immerse themselves in the intellectual life of the city. Venues such as the Ashmolean Museum, the Oxford Playhouse and the Museum of Modern Art offer important learning opportunities - but also welcome distraction from the busy school day.
Sixth Form Achievements
In 2023, 83% of Higher Level grades were 7-5 and just under half achieved 7/6. Each year a number of pupils are awarded places at Oxford and Cambridge whilst the majority go on to top universities in Britain and overseas. Pupils are increasingly interested in studying outside the UK and we have considerable experience in this area. In recent years, pupils have gone on to study at US and Canadian universities including Harvard, Dartmouth, UCLA, McGill, Northeastern and NYU. Pupils have also been successful in their applications to universities in Hong Kong, Japan, Ireland and elsewhere in Europe.
Pastoral Care
The pastoral care system at the St Edward's is outstanding. From the moment they join the School, pupils are made aware of the wide network of support available to them - from House staff to the Pastoral and Safeguarding Deputy Heads and the School Counselling and Health Centre team, there is a highly effective network of skilled professionals ensuring that pupils are safe and happy.
The School and the Admissions Process
St Edward's has around 810 pupils, 86% of whom board. The Sixth Form has around 350 pupils, some 25% of whom are from overseas (17% across the rest of the School), and the boy/girl split is 55%/45%. Entry to the Sixth Form is competitive with around five applicants per place. Academic and Music Scholarships are available along with further Awards in Sport, Art, Dance and Drama.
