Windermere School is unique. Set amidst the stunningly beautiful mountains and lakes of Cumbria, it delivers an exciting and forward-thinking curriculum, shaping the hearts and minds of the next generation. We aim to educate children to be capable and thoughtful, resourceful, courageous and caring. This is a school where young people can enjoy their schooldays and parents can be confident that their children are following the very best pathways to university and to adult life.

Benefiting from its extraordinary location in the heart of the English Lake District Windermere School offers a unique education, embracing the IDEALS of the Round Square movement and the International Baccalaureate curriculum. Adventure is part of the curriculum and watersports play a large part in the co-curriculum. Celebrating its 100th year at its present site overlooking the glorious Windermere in 2024, the school values its traditions and constantly looks to the future. As a small school, we get to know all our children well and have a dedicated wellbeing team to help give the very best to every young person in our care.

The school comprises three campuses: our Junior School, Senior School and Watersports Centre. Our Watersports Centre, Hodge Howe, is our own RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Centre and boathouse on the shores of Windermere. In 2018, the school was chosen to become a British Youth Sailing Recognised Club by the Royal Yachting Association for its race training and is one of only two schools in the UK to receive this accreditation.

The school also boasts three fantastic boarding houses that stand in our beautiful Lakeland grounds. Windermere boarders are never short of things to do, with access to the lake, evening events and a fully developed programme of activities to both local and national places of interest. The school's inclusive ethos also allows for pupils from age eight upwards to be made to feel welcome in a unique and homely environment. Each boarding house has comfortable dormitories with full-time residential houseparents. Windermere School is only 90 minutes from Manchester and Liverpool international airports, and three hours from London by high-speed train. We also run a chaperoned airport collection service on dedicated travel days.

The Sixth Form boarding house is designed to promote the successful transition between school and higher education. It is laid out in university style apartments with twin and single bedrooms, a bathroom, common room, and kitchen, plus a large communal space for socialising. Combined with the International Baccalaureate curriculum this creates an environment where our Sixth Formers are challenged, extended, motivated and inspired. You can be confident that the path you choose will equip your child with the results needed for success beyond the school gates, with a future full of possibilities.

It is a rare privilege to be part of a school with Windermere's history and potential. We invite you to take a closer look and would be delighted to welcome you and your family to our school.
