Fantastisch! Top IB Scores see two Brentwood School students off to Oxford to study German

Students at Brentwood School arrived to pick up the results of their International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme exams on Thursday (5th July) and two students have realised their dreams of studying at Oxford University.

Out of 27 students, 6 achieved 40 points or higher out of the possible 45. (40 points is equivalent to A*A*A at A Level) They were: Luke Cooper, with 43 points, who is going to study German at St Peter’s College, Oxford; Georgia Hoggart, with 42 points, also destined for Oxford to study German at Lady Margaret Hall; future ancient historian Marcus Livermore; Emily Scott; and future lawyers Bethany Sargood and Joseph Defries.

An overwhelmed Georgia admitted that the studying was stressful, but the group helped each other get through it together. Her advice to future IBDP students was not to do it light-heartedly, and to be prepared to work. She is proof that the hard work definitely pays off!

Emily Scott, who plans to study Psychology at the Russell Group Exeter University really enjoyed the experience and paid tribute to all her teachers who were so supportive.

The School is a national test centre for SAT American Admissions Tests, and each year, several students in the cohort head stateside. This year is no exception and excited students include Anna Belova, off to the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York on a scholarship, and Olivia Harrison, to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

The School now enjoys a 4 year average of 36 points, equivalent to 3 As at A Level, which represents a huge commitment put in by both students and teachers.

The School’s IB Diploma Programme Director, Mr Jonathan Barfield Moore, who will be taking up the post of Deputy Head (Academic) at the School from September, commented:

“We’re extremely proud of our students and the hard work and commitment that has delivered this superb set of results. The International Baccalaureate is both all-encompassing and rigorous, but they have risen to the challenge once again. I would also like to thank our talented teachers who continue to get the best from them. Next year sees our biggest ever uptake of students taking the IB Diploma and I’m delighted that our strong average score continues to attract top performing international students but also an encouraging number based in the UK, too.”
