Flavours & festivities: LIS International Day 2024

This year's celebration at Luanda International School embraced the theme "A Taste of the World," chosen by the Parent Association (PA) to honour the vibrant and diverse cultures represented within our community. As LIS’s biggest and most important event, International Day brings together students, parents, staff and guests in a joyous occasion that showcases the cultural richness and unity of our school.

The day began with a spectacular parade, as participants proudly displayed their national flags, donned traditional attire, and marched in unity. Following the parade, attendees were treated to an array of culinary delights. Various stands offered the opportunity to sample authentic dishes from different nations, prepared on the spot, creating a global gastronomic experience.

A special highlight of the event was the performances by several countries, where traditional dances, songs, and musical instruments brought the celebration to life. These courageous performances allowed participants to share their cultural heritage with the LIS community, deepening the connections between nations.

The playground became a vibrant meeting place where both children and adults connected, fostering relationships that will last a lifetime. A special moment was dedicated to traditional Angolan dance performances, where the community came together to honour and celebrate the culture of the host country—a home to all within the LIS family.

Adding an element of excitement to the day were the raffle draws and silent auctions. The raffle gave attendees a chance to win prizes such as spa days, hotel stays, and food vouchers, while the silent auction featured personalised baskets from various countries, offering winners a unique way to bring a piece of another culture into their homes.

We extend our gratitude to the Parent Association and the dedicated staff for their tireless efforts in organising such a successful event. Congratulations to everyone who helped make this celebration of diversity an unforgettable experience.
