This week, please join us in congratulating Yi-Liz, who competed in the Silverlake Tennis Malaysia Junior Tour SportExcel 2022, organised by the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia.
Yi-Liz competed valiantly, and managed to get to the quarter final in her singles event, and for doubles, came out champions! We are very proud of Yi-Liz and her achievements. Congratulations!
Yi-Liz writes: "Last week, I participated in the first Tennis Malaysia Junior Tour for 2022. This is one of the biggest Malaysian tennis competitions where junior tennis players from all across Malaysia come to participate. It was held at the National Tennis Center in Kuala Lumpur.
"In my first round I was up against a 5th seeded player from Negeri Sembilan. As an unseeded player I was nervous but gave my best, winning the match. My second round match was against a player from Kedah. I managed to win to cruise into the quarterfinals. I knew my next round wasn't going to be easy as I was up against a seasoned 4th seed from Selangor. She was playing very aggressively and I couldn't find my rhythm; I eventually lost. I was really upset but relished the experience and made a new friend out of her.
"Losing in the singles motivated me to try better in my doubles. With my partner, Adani, from Penang, we managed to win all our matches in straight sets and eventually made it to the finals against the top seeds. The doubles finals started almost at mid-day. The sun was blazing and both our opponents and us started nervously; each losing our service games and squaring at 2-2. After that, I felt the game momentum was in our favor and my strokes just clicked. We eventually won 6-3 6-1.
"This has been a truly enriching four days; playing against top players, dealing with my defeat in my singles and finally emerging as Champion in my doubles. I look forward to more tournaments in the future."
